Knitting with Fabric – Helix Bag Knit-Along with Avu Vintage (2 of 3)

Three Tuesdays, 6:30pm–8:30pm

Jan 27
February 3
February 10

Over the course of three sessions, Alison of Avu Vintage will guide you through creating the eco-conscious “Helix bag” by Rows. The bag is a stylish shoulder bag, stitched with repurposed fabric yarn made from old bedsheets, tablecloths, and and other unwanted/unused fabrics destined for new life. It’s a beautiful everyday bag, and can be adjusted from the pattern to be larger or smaller depending on your preference (I plan to make a larger farmers market bag!!).

In the first session, we will cut our chosen fabrics into yarn and will then learn the stitch patterns, all with Alison’s guidance. Most intermeidate knitters will be able to complete the bag in three sessions (or fewer if you’re working on your project between sessions!).

If you do complete the bag before the final session, you are welcome to attend our Fiber Arts studio sessions (which coincide with the workshop) to start another bag or work on another project (additional materials will be for sale).

Skill level: Intermediate - Advanced beginners welcome

Yarn: We will be repurposing old fabric by cutting it into a continuous strip to use as a super chunky weight yarn. You can use one large piece of fabric like a bed sheet, tablecloth, or duvet cover to create one continuous strip, or you can use smaller pieces and tie them together. We will provide fabric, but feel free to bring your own.

Needles: Needles will be provided. (15mm/US 19 circular knitting needles 24”-36”)

Pattern: Please purchase the Helix Bag knitting pattern by Rows prior to the workshop. https://www.rowsknitwear.com/product-page/helix-bag-knitting-pattern
